A little of the early testing in my radio controlled FPV (first person vantage, first person video) project.

* Brand new Traxxas Summit with 2.4 GHz radio.
* Cut the top off the body and raise the bars into a high-top cage.
* Jerry-rig a platform for a camera over the motor. Yes, that's Erector/Meccano. I'd have to glue Lego.
* Test drive it to see how much stabilization is required.

The tires aren't even round yet. (See how tight they pack this thing!?) Need a lot of foam and/or a stiffer framework for the camera.

Next phase is to wire up the video output to a video transmitter so I can drive around the neighborhood. Stay tuned!

  • Nice! I may try something like this with a rock crawler. I still have Meccano Erector from when I was a teenager close to 20 years ago...seems like a great way to mount the FPV equipment. :)

  • I got my Summit after watching Wobby's FPV escapades. I can't wait to hook mine up for FPV driving, just ordered some cheap stuff to test out the waters so to speak. Hehe.
