  • why do deaf people use their mouths when signing?

Something I've always wondered as they look as though they're struggling with the mouth actions anyway.

  • @StudioBurst

Each of word does have fewer different signs-- 'strange' 'weird' 'odd' 'russia' and other word are a very same sign (However depends on where the sign language come from) so we figured a way to avoid any mistake by our mouths. No mouth, no emotion. I have a friend who doesn't use his mouth, it isn't easy for me.

  • Well, not if you were strongly deaf world/power then

Why do we use our hands when we talk?

  • you're really really charismatic.

  • @StudioBurst

because some signs are very similar but can be more empasized with lip pattern. such as son and boy (flick index finger under chin) but lip pattern helps to clarify the word.

  • Are you serious?

  • @OneSephiroth ah okay, didn't realise the mouth played such a big part in sign language :)

  • I'm learing sign and my instructor is Deaf he too teaches us that we should wave when communicating with the deaf instead of clapping ut of respect because deaf people can't hear the clap. We also get taught that when you toast to someone e.g. at a birthday etc instead of clanking the glasses together the deaf would cup the glass with their hand and touch hand rahter than the glass xx

  • Funny using both instead deaf or hearing way LOL Good one
