Sam is a 2002 Sec B Welsh rescue pony. He is a ton of fun and super special. Sam is learning tricks with clicker training. Trick Training has made him so much stronger and happier! Teaching Sam to rear has been amazing for his recovery. Clicker training has made him feel like he knows the answer and doesn't have to be afraid. With his ever-growing repertoire of tricks, he seems to feel like he has many behaviors to offer and doesn't have to revert to running away if he is unsure. We're having tons of fun together.
Here's what Sam was like BEFORE trick training:
"Sam is 7 years old and 12'2-13h. It varies a whole 2 inches, seemingly depending on the tension in his body. You can measure him one day and get one height and measure him a month later and get a different height on the same concrete floor using a stick with a level and other people to confirm the reading. Sam used to stand like a tripod with his front feet almost touching and his back feet spread out. He came from a rescue situation and he was in a great deal of pain. Sam's hindquarters are very sensitive. You can easily see the tension in them. For a a long time, you couldn't pick up his feet because standing on 3 feet caused terrible pain. Much of the time, the pain would go into his face and he would not want his head touched at all.
Sam has received acupressure treatments, massage, and stretching. He couldn't have much professional work because he was terrified of being touched. When I rescued him May of 2008, his skin was so tight that when he got his shots, they loaded in his neck and he had to have it drained. This year, his neck was softer and they did not load, but he still has a ways to go.
Stretching and belly lifts helped considerably to raise his belly and stand him up. Over the course of 3 months stretching 3-4 days a week, Sam began to be able to stand with his hind feet next to each other sometimes. Previously, he always stood like a tripod or with one hind foot forward and the other way back.
Here we are a year and half later, and Sam still stands camped out some, like he is afraid of being tipped over. Still, he is much happier than he used to be and offers to trot now. For a whole year, he was either standing still or running for it. He never got along with others in the pasture. He would stand in the corner and guard it. Now, he is finally coming up to the fence to be pet, but he still winces when you bring your hand up to his face. I'm not sure if his face still hurts or if he is worried it will hurt.
I really feel that Sam's issues are pain more than fear."
I just love your style. No wonder you turn to clicker training and TAGteach. The post that came with this video just about brought me to tears. Great work.

Isn't he just? He hardly even looks real sometimes... Not so much in his winter woolies, but totally in the summer.
