This video demonstrates the brain interface system designed by a capstone group at Northeastern University (members: Kaye, Kibbe, Lippeveld, Mueller, Nedoroscik, Perez). The project is advised by Deniz Erdogmus and Waleed Meleis from June 2010 to April 2011.
The flickering LEDs are mapped to various functions of the aircraft in the open source flight simulator software - the four LEDs on the corners control things like throttle up/down, landing gear state switch; the four on a ring at the center of the screen are mapped to various control surface actions to perform left/right roll and pitch up/down. Basic autopilot controllers from these desired actions to wing surface controls are designed by the team. The brain signals are classified using template matching applied to EEG acquired at Oz in the 10-20 International System.
