I am Taiwanese. I have to say, Asian HAS TO THANK Japan. For example, after first-sino war, Taiwan was ceded to Japan from China. Some history told us how cruel Japanese government colonizing Taiwan. However, Japanese INDEED did a lot of construction and development in Taiwan and also protected Taiwan from the invasion of Europeans. If Japan did not become a powerful country after Meiji Restoration, I thought all Asia, up to now, still under the colonization of Europe and USA.

Some people would say: Japanese army killed a lot of people in Asia. But what if the colonization of Europeans? They would enslave Asians forever. Taiwan was once colonized by Netherlands. Dutch was 100 times ferocious than Japanese. All they want are just money and interest. Dutch cheated Taiwanese aborigines' lands, made Formosan sika deer died out, imposed taxation on everything, disunited Taiwanese, and killed Taiwanese in very horrible ways. Read history, and knowing white rulers are evil.

China and Korea don't count as South-East Asia.

As to whether or not we did exactly the same thing the Europeans did, ask S.E. Asian people. There are lots of testimonies by government officials. Some even say we should have continued the war for 5 more years to kick out the Western colonial rulers from Middle East and Africa as well. They regret the independence of M.E. and African nations was too late.

And why do they see Japan is liberators? They tried to do the exact same thing the Europeans were doing, they were just less successful at it.

It's all the South East Asian people, probably with the exception of the Philippines. Most of the S.E. Asian nations view the Imperial Japanese Army as a liberator rather than invader. Check my several previous posts for the evidences.
