She may be about 70 years old but she still can do her thing well. So when writing my Student Workbook for AQA GCSE Music for ZigZag Education, I knew that Miriam Makeba deserved to be in the African Music section so that this generation of UK musicians can be aware of her unique, expressive authentic African music which has transcended time and space. God bless you Mama Africa.

@nitapuss every child from black Africa knows Makeba without even ever having seen her on tv or anywhere else. her voice is iconic, make no mistake about that. i had never seen her picture, never knew her - if u know what i mean, until the other day. but bring her music and each and every one could tell u that is MAMA AFRICA..

@nitapuss i dont agree with you about people not remembering ger music if not for that movie...maybe in the west but i think in Africa pple remember her music even without watching that movie

if it were not for the Movie "Blood Diamond" i do not believe no one would have remembered her music... we should thank that movie.. i believe i still have her old LP of her music my father gave many a yr. ago... she plays so beautifully her voice is calming to my ears... hope we can remember her always.. as well i am not sure she was remembered at the 2008 Grammy's when she passed Anita H.

Hi RaynerJM,
Can you please upload the Ingew Mabala (sung by Zenzi Lee) from this concert? It's so awesome and I'd love to see it again! I'd love you forever!

I love this woman! It is sad she left us last year!

You don't have to be African to remember her music. I lived in South America during the '60's and LOVED her music then, and still do.

Many of us in the west remember her songs and voice without any reminders. She brought South Africa to International awareness.
