Those dumb looking fenders on the HD were inspired by a yank who insisted they be put there to give the car extra length.

Wow, there's a trip down memory lane.
My dad bought a HD in 1970 for $1000 and sold it in better condition in 1992 after 150,000miles for $1500.
We had the 149 motor originally, but a damaged radiator put paid to that and we replaced it with a reconditioned 186. Made the car far better to drive. Got my licence in that car with the old "three on the tree" gear selector...

@aussiepaul44 This is true, although the only real difference between the 186 and 179 was a sticker on the rocker cover, and the bore and stoke size

@dave440v8 .145 hp from a 225ci 6 ,the HD had a 179ci 6.
It was mostly the edges on the front guards...
My old man had a HD Prem when I was a kid, it was great!
