  • @stewartjv52 I did not know that Irene Cara was on TV at 8 years old-I remember her from "Fame" and the movie 'Sparkle" with Phillip Thomas

  • I remember Irene Cara from the movie 'Sparkle" from mid 70's i did not know she was a star at 8 years old

  • @kanaede Her mom was Puerto Rican :)

  • @Laurie4631 Irene was a friend of mine. We had the same Jazz and Tap teacher Phil Black and the same vocal coach Al Greiner. Her mom and my mom were both usherettes in Broadway theaters. I remember one time when she slept over my house my mom asked her to take a bath..she locked the bathroom door and flooded my bathroom because she didn't want to :) It was pretty funny at the time. I miss those days and miss Irene.

  • So cute! :)

  • @CanadaguyRudey Back When Britney Spears was 8 or 9 she could sing to, often they sing better as children then they do as adults. Billy Gilman Christina Agulera, Michael Jackson, Donny Osmond, Charlotte Church and others were also discovered at young ages.

  • SHE WAS A STAR BACK THEN!~

  • @irenecarashrine I just wanted to say I had the opportunity to attend school with this bright young talent. We both went to the same catholic school in the first grade, and she was as cool then as she is now. I remember when she won the "Little Miss America" pagent in Palisades Park, when she came to school the next day I was so very excited for her. You kick ass Irene and most of us from the school never forgot you ... you are and always will be the brightest shining star!!!

  • @awarren I don't think it's fair to say she IS under-rated. I think she did QUITE well and was rated very highly. I recall being a fan of hers in the '80's and '90's. I expect she just moved on with life out of the spotlight. I don't know, but she was a big hit with me and from what I see she HAD and still HAS apparently many fans.

  • That was VERY entertaining. I thought it was cute that she didn't know what the rest of the words of the song mean. I wonder if any spanish speaking people can tell us how well she sang it since apparently she didn't actually speak spanish so must have just been singing it by ear.
