It's easy and not as difficult as you might think to build a good antenna for all your hobby reception needs. Some wire, wood a capacitor and a few hours work.

  • The cross members ar 18 inchs, the spaceing between turns are 1/2 inch there are 18 slots for the internal spiral, one for the single turn loop. If you are using a radio like the sony ICF7600gr that supplies power to the antenna jack add a 100 pf capacitor in series with the pickup loop to block the DC.

  • @MixxiePixxie I do think I heard him state that this wasnt a HOW-TO video rather than a YOU-CAN video.

  • My only antenna connector on my MW reciever is a PL259 / SO239 type rather than the 3.5mm - 1/8" jack. I added the correct bandpass filters to the receiver, including high pass, low pass and notch for the 500-1800kHz area of RF. I have seen gimballed versions of this antenna which also allow the antenna to be tilted to the vertical or horizonal plane as well as the 360 deg rotation you are showing here.

  • I don't think I heard you state how long the cross members are or how far the furtherest primary coil windings was from the center. I other words, how far apart, on the diagonal, are the outer primary windings? I need to know how much wire is required. Also, what was the value of the variable air capacitor, minimum and maxium, and what is the value of that fixed ceramic capacitor across the varible air capacitor?

  • Can you describe the capacitor for me to look for on Ebay? Thanks.

  • If you are listening to 550 WKRC you must be in the Cincy area! I live in Hamilton!

Could I get you to build me that same antenna if I supply the parts?

  • THANKYOU THANKYOU THANKYOU !!!! Excellent and simple design, explanation as well! I love am Coast to Coast and always disappointed in my reception! Ill give it a go !! Maybe I wont be pulling my hair out anymore!

  • Great job, excellent explanation too!

  • nice design :)
