You' re right insofar as Celt was a Hellenic word, However it was used by the Greeks to describe a people who lived North of Greece.That does not imply they themselves were Greek Using the term to describe ancient Irish or Scots may be problematic. There s little evidence of Celts in Ireland or Britain (@Taiginator- note two DIFFERENT islands). There is evidence of a Western seaboard Atlantic Culture Sstretching up the whole of Western Europe and into the Mediterranean (Bob Quinn)

@JohnPurchaseArt. You' re abslutely spot on with that. Even the English are in the main not particularly Anglo Saxon. I remember the DNA study in the British press back in 1997. English friends of mine who were studying archaology at the time cnfirmed it.

@Taiginator The picts were in scotland before the gaels from northern ireland started settling scotland around 400 ad or earlier. the picts were celtic or an offshoot of the celts. anyway the picts were assimilated and absorbed into the gaelic culture. The only germanic tribes at that time were in scandinavia and germany.

DNA Research by Stephen Oppenheimer had disproven the victorian myth that Celts were cleansed by Germanic tribes.In fact 80% of British DNA comes from the earliest settlers who were here long before celtic and saxon culture was imposed by replaced ruling classes.The general population has never changed.
