Ezdduf4kuz, In answer to your request posted a month ago, the artist that had the original hit of "only sixteen" was the late Sam Cooke he recorded it back in 1959 on "Keen Records", just prior to transferring over to RCA records. Regards: Henry W. Pope

I actually like this version better than the Top 40 hit by Steve Larwrence. I noticed in the video that he had covered a few hits that were made famous here in Vancouver Cda..one being "Only Sixteen", I'm now wondering who had the original hit, was it Johnny Burnette or Craig. Craig is unknown here until youtube came thru, & now I'm learning of artists from abroad that are new names to me. Cliff Richard did Am. covers too but had plenty of his own hits go top 10 here..Englands King of Pop!!

@Ezdduf4kuZ In the pre-Beatles era, most pop hits came from America and were covered by British artists in the UK, with mixed fortunes. Craig did a good job and I think Marty Wilde's covers were all superior to the original, except for Ritchie Valens's Donna which can't be bettered by anyone else. Cliff's first hit "Move it" was a British original, but at first it was supposed to be the B side to an American song. Re "Only sixteen", I think the original was by Sam Cooke.
