Part 8 of 8: This week on Science and the Outer Streams, Andy Nesky, President of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Theosophical Society, welcomes the Rev. Dr. Jonathan S. Rose. Dr. Rose discusses the life, legacy and works of Swedish philosopher, scientist, and theologian Emmanuel Swedenborg. Swedenborg has been called one of the greatest thinkers Sweden has ever produced, and his theology sparked a Christian religious movement known as The New Jerusalem Church. Dr. Rose is the series editor and the translator for the "New Century Edition," a series of annotated English translations of Swedenborg's theological writings. He has been the Curator of the Swedenborgia Library and is now a chaplain and assistant professor of Religion and Sacred Languages at Bryn Athyn College of the New Church.
Thanks for posting this (I left a comment elsewhere). I think that the interview with Dr Rose left out a key point about Swedenborg's works: the Theory of Correspondences, which Baudelaire made his own and which generated Symbolism: Rimbaud, Verlaine, Mallarme in literature, Debussy in music, an important influence on Yeats, TS Eliot, etc.. Moreover, Swedenborg's Correspodences are key to his relevance, the understanding of Scripture, God and the after-life, and life in the physical world, etc..

Was Swedenborg a Free Mason? His body is in the Cathedral at Stockholm. A private phrenologist has his skull. That ain't right.

I enjoyed listening to what Rev. Dr. Johnathan S. Rose had to share about Emmanuel Swedenborg. Very interesting. I was wondering what Swedenborg has to say about our divine purpose for our existence in regards to love and about our existence in regards to living in the now (presence) philosophy?
