Lower than someone playing a tambourine or triangle?

They're mixing songs, but that's a really complicated task. Usually the aim is to have some ingenuity, to combine elements that seem disparate but that mesh in exciting ways. You can take a lot of little fragments in a way that's similar to playing an instrument. Plus there's the technical challenges of synching, timing, editing the sounds you want to use. It's hard to get a 3.2 second bit of record mixed in repeatedly, precisely, by hand.

Paul's Boutique is easily one of the best albums of all time. and 95% of the music is samples. Art form and a fucking good one when done properly.
