  • so what your doing is your flattening one side first. so the side that your flattening right now is that the side thats facing you when you shoot or facing away from you?

  • The side I'm flattening is the side that will face me when I shoot the bow. We call this the "Belly" of the bow. The "back" of the bow is the side that faces the target when shooting.

  • so what do you do with the other side when your done with the belly side?

  • Just peel or scrape the bark off and leave it alone. You need the back of the bow to be as perfect as can be. No dings or cuts in the back or it might blow at full draw! Kaboom!

  • Hey! You used a pencil! Thats not stone age!

  • Ha! You caught me! As to pencils...always remember this: you can lead a horse to water, but a pencil must be lead!

  • LOL You are just a good Bow maker !

  • so i should start on the stave/sapling while its still green?

  • so if you spit it further down the bow would it have more recoil or jsut break?

  • ok thanks

  • find a mineral/rock guide for your state/location.. like how they have state fishing guides and hiking guides that show locations/maps/instructions/directions etc etc. In the rock finding guide for my state it tells you all the rocks available in the state.. chronologically ordered.. and i have a bigger booklet that even shows fossils available which gives better info.

but often times the best thing to do is find out where flint is at.. go for a hike.. GATHER ^^

if not.. i guess, online? idk

  • where do you find your flint

  • Thanks. You realy helped me alot! It really is easier watching someone do it than reading guides... Especialy when english is not my first language... At the moment i'm making a bow myself, and i think that if i don't do many mistakes my bow will be good. And i have a question, one end of my bow is 2.3 centimeters wide (about 0.9 inches) and the other is about 3 centimeters wide (about 1.2 inches) should i narrow the wide end to 0.9 inches or just make it flater? I think i flatened it too much..

  • making a bow with modern steel tools isnt that hard, as long as you dont expect a masterpiece on your first try.just give it a go, and remember that if you dont make mistakes you dont learn anything. Your first couple of tries will probobly break, but thats all part of the learning curve. just learn from the failures and remember not to make the same mistakes next time. Good luck!

  • pretty cool.i always like stone age weapons from swords to bows i like middle age weapon very much but i like bows most.i always wanted to have one or to make but i see that it is too difficult.Realy Great Job,Congratulations!
