N900 with Portrait Support
In this video I am using proximity sensor to activate portrait mode.
You can also use Camera button.
The latest version of shortcutD in extras-devel adds this functionality.
Installation:
1. install shortcutd from extras-devel
2. install proximityd from extras-devel
3. go to settings and configure the app (it is at the bottom)
you can set portrait shortcut to camera button or proximity sensor
just press 'Ctrl','white shift'&'R' at same time..
then close your keyboard..
then rotate your phone to potrait position...

Symbian or maemo, it doesnt matter, its not smooth and thats a must for modern smartphones (at least for me).

How do you use the proximity sensor to activate the forced rotation? That's really useful

@KingofArmA i see your point in that the n900 is essentially an internet tablet....however, i often find maself wanting to send an IM or SMS while I've got sumthing in the other hand; lanscape makes this almost impossible. Most ppl would primarily use the landscape but there are few times when potrait mode is needed

portrait mode is unnecessary on the n900
landscape makes much more fun
