http://www.pbs.org/nationalparks In July 1929, 90-year-old Maria Lebrado returned to the Yosemite Valley in California for the first time since she was a young girl. As this clip from Ken Burns's newest film, THE NATIONAL PARKS: AMERICA'S BEST IDEA, premiering Sunday-Friday, September 27-October 2, 2009, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, reveals, Lebrado's birth name was Totuya, the granddaughter of Chief Tenaya, leader of the Ahwahneechees, an Indian tribe who for centuries had called the valley their home. In 1851, a battalion of white men had driven them out at bayonet point; Totuya was the sole remaining survivor of that sad moment.
