@taylor,is is t'sao shu (chinese) sosho in Nihongo. The word means "grass writing" to give you an idea of what is going on in front of you,and funny how life is,you ARE right without knowing it perhaps, hiragana WAS Kanji written in Sosho, then standardized to be used as an alphabet. There are charts that show which Kanji led to which Hiragana, for example Mu comes from the Kanji for war or martial and Wa comes from harmony.Hope this helped.

It doesn't look like kanji... it looks like hiragana.

Your are right, this is shizuka. But if you tell somoene directly SHIZUKA!!, it means be quiet!! A very strong meaning. It is better not using the word like this so frequiently. But its real meanign is tranquility. A beautiful meaning.

You are right. It is shizuka.

I'm surprised how a great teacher allowed to herself the strock to be broken and then making a correction like a bigginer even in fornt of people!! A think it is true that El mejor escribano echa borrones or 猿まで木から落ちる。I wish she would show more respect to the foriegner (not japanese).
