Video of Aspen, CO's SD-10 which is set off daily as a noon whistle. It used to be mounted on a steel tower on the old fire station and was much louder. When the new station was built, it was remounted with sheet metal paneling around it to reduce the volume in the downtown area....which also has the side effect of greatly decreasing its effective distance.

  • I had NO idea about this or I wouldve been able to get a vid!!

There's a number of towns that noon test still. Steamboat Springs used to have a 2T22 everyday at noon, but they stopped a year or two ago and switched to a steam whistle. Ouray still goes at noon and some scattered mountain towns here and there do also.

There is also an old 3-phase Darley siren, either a Model 3 or Model 5 inside, on the other side of town. It is hooked up to a rotary phase converter and was set to activate with the SD-10, but when I went over there, it was switched to OFF.

  • wheres the sd-10?.

  • @dillonrockband ik right i have family out there and i did not know that mountain towns have sirens

  • nice SD-10!

  • @thunderboltlover

I think it may still be used for fire calls also, but not sure about that.

  • @CrazySirenBoy We have in Brownsville, Tennessee a very very old 3T22 that hadn't been used over 20 years until 3 years ago.

  • @CrazySirenBoy That's awesome. I didn't do much research on that because I figured most mountain towns wouldn't have sirens. But now all we need now is for Manitou Springs to noon-whistle their 550-AT...

  • sounds like a ACA Allertor 125
