"Nick, I really don't see anything that can change your condition. We did everything we could and this is the best that can happen. The treatment wasn't meant to cure you of this cancer. It was only to prolong your life and this is the most time we can give you." He nodded completely understanding. He knew he wasn't going to make it but he never gave up. Hearing the doctor leave his room he turned his attention back to the frame he was holding. It was one of his favorites. It was so simple yet so heartwarming. He had his arms securely around her as their smiles reached their eyes as they stared back the camera.

Tracing the outline of their bodies a tear fell from his eyes as he brought back the memory of them giggling uncontrollably at absolutely nothing. How could god be so cruel to him? How could he feel close to a god when he was ripping him from the people he loved? "Nick?"

"I don't know what to do anymore Joe. Its really going to happen. I'm going to leave everything I love behind." Walking over to his broken brother he took in a deep breath fighting the tears to stay where they were. "God has different plans for you."

He rolled his eyes at that statement. Was that really all they could tell him to make him feel slightly better? "I swear to god if I hear one more person say that to me I'm going to scream!" Nodding his head slightly he pulled his younger brother into a bear hug just trying to savor any moment with him. "We were supposed to see each other grow up and get married and be uncles to each other's kids!"

"And worst of all Joe. I will never get to see my child grow up. I won't ever be able to hold that precious baby for even just a second. That baby is going to go through life without even knowing who I am." His heart went out to his brother. He couldn't imagine what he was going through. All of this was coming at lightning speed and there was no way for it to slow down. "Hey don't you think for a moment that Selena and I won't be telling that baby how incredible you are or how you had this weird obsession with having everything in perfect order. That baby is going to know every detail about you from your unruly curly hair to your sausage fingers."

It always seemed as if his brother could make him feel the happiest even when he was at his lowest point. He really was the luckiest guy in the whole entire world. He had found the love of his life and his family was the best he could have ever asked for. It was well past midnight when he finally took a look at the clock hanging above his door. Getting up from his spot he began to go through his things sorting out things he knew his family wouldn't need. He knew how hard it was to go through your loved ones things once they were gone. He didn't want them to go through that.

He ignored the pain that he felt through his body and continued to work through the night; just trying to make his passing a little more bearable for his family. Finally when the clock struck a little after five am he allowed himself to finally get some rest, but his tired eyes wouldn't cooperate with him. Picking his phone up from the nightstand he called the one person he could talk to for the rest of his life.

"Nick? What are you doing up so early? Is everything alright?" He smiled to himself as he heard the sleep threaded through her voice. "I'm completely fine. I just wanted to hear your voice."


"God I've missed you Nick. It seems like it's been days since I last spoke to you." In reality it had only been a few hours. "I've missed you too." It was silent as they just laid there listening to steady breathing of one another. "Nick?"

"Yeah?"

"I love you." He loved those three simple words. It meant the world to him. Those three words had so much power in them it was unbelievable. "I love you too Selena."

"Do you remember when we used to go on picnics at the beach and we would complain about how the sand always got in our food?"

"Of course I do, and I remember you complaining about have sand all over your body at the end of the day."

"Why didn't we ever choose another place to have the picnic?" He smiled at the question. To be honest he didn't know. It was their special place to be so carefree. "I have no clue why don't you tell me?"

"I loved the smile you would get on your face every time we went there and when the sun would finally set you would look over at me and just smile. You seemed like you were in complete bliss."

She woke up with a smile on her face as she heard the heavy breathing of him on the line. He would only ever be the person she could talk to until the sun would start rising. "Please tell me you're awake beautiful."

"Yeah I just got up." She smiled at his deep voice rolling in from her phone. "Nick? Do you want to spend the day with me?"

"I don't think my mom would let me out of the house."

"We can play ninja for the day."
