The year is 1939; Nazi Germany has recently invaded Poland, and many small towns and villages have already become victims of the German raid. A regiment of Nazi soldiers arrive upon a small church nestled in the sprawling wheat fields surrounding the small town of Leczyca. As they enter the church grounds, a low-ranking soldier is ordered into the catacombs deep beneath the church to search for valuables and items of historical and cultural significance for appropriation. Reluctantly, the young soldier heads down, and discovers he has been tainted by the stolen goods, further building the Legend of Boruta.

FILM DESCRIPTION

A short film (approximately ten minutes in length) centered around Boruta - an archaic creature who guards treasures deep within the catacombs of Poland - as he is confronted by unwelcome visitors during the German occupation of Poland amidst World War II. "The Legend of Boruta" is an animated grad-film project by Bartek Nowakowski, completed in April 2007 at the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design (Vancouver, BC). The concept of the film is derived from an old Polish legend that originates from the small town of Leczyca, Poland. The
town - consequently, also Bartek's home town - though small, is saturated with old churches, cathedrals, art,
architecture, stories and legends, all of which have inspired him to create his first film, The Legend of Boruta. .

  • you did a great job on this film. beaautiful pictures, good sounds etc.

Though there are things that should be done better next time. The story goes too crawl. Much more could have beeen included in 10 min.

And the part when he tooks the treasure copies Pan's Labirinth... Otherwise the monster is the same as Pale Man from the mentioned movie.

  • I want to mention that The Legend of Boruta was conceived before Pan's Labyrinth became public, and although it is flattering to have my film compared to Pan's, there was never an intention to use it as a base for my work.

Also, Pale Man in Pan's Labyrinth has a very moist, smooth and fleshy textural quality, which is exactly the opposite of what I wanted devil Boruta to be - a very dry, stiff creature.

Thanks for all the comments! =)

  • Your sound effects are ridiculously dreadful. Have you ever heard footsteps of any kind before? They aren't supposed to sound like someone is panting into a bag of glass...

  • I appologize I offended you with my foley work.

Jokes aside, I will be spending more time on audio in my next film.

  • very good 5 stars***** by Vincenzo.

  • Absolutely fantastic: the details, the dust, the face... like somebody said, you need more action. For a 10 minute film, some seconds are boring. But congratulations !

  • Great job! I could of seen more.

  • Wow!

  • Why didnt that guy get to take an MP-40 down that death trap :D AWESOME JOB - i have to learn 3dsmax for my film cause and i haaaate it !!!!!!!

  • With the exception of the irritating footstep sound effects (sound more like someone sawing a plank of wood.), this was fantastic work! Instant fave for me.

  • inverted cross at 8:30 just a thought

  • Ladnie! Tez mieszkam w Vancouver, nawet niedaleko od Emily Carr, powinienem czesciej tam zagladac.

Nice work! A bit of feedback: the catacombs and the statue of the woman looked like something you might find under Athens or Rome, rather than under Leczyca in Poland. The film is fantasy and it's not supposed to be a historically accurate, but maybe wooden carvings and structures would give it more of a pagan Polish feel

  • @locustsymphony Sorry friend. I thought the film was fine, but I have qualms about the sound effects.

  • @mnbutch

mnbutch is an asshole. It's a well done film; the sound is fine
