Giving Kids with Cancer Hope - The Oaxaca Project

http://www.oaxacaproject.com - Deborah D Miller has been applying Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and other energy techniques at the Hospital General Dr Aurelio Valdivieso del Estado de Oaxaca, Mexico in order to help children with cancer.

I began volunteering in the childrens cancer ward September 14, 2007, applying EFT and other energy techniques to the children, parents and nurses to help them reduce stress, fear and anxiety and improve their mental and emotional health.

My work is complimentary to that of the hospital treatments. It does not come in to interfere or replace but to incorporate, augment and improve the existing treatments by providing powerful and necessary tools to give relief of emotional trauma such as fear, loneliness, and unwillingness to cooperate with the doctor and/or nurses.

Short, simple treatments provide a way in which to improve the overall atmosphere of the cancer ward from one of misery to that of peace and hope.

For the children with cancer using EFT has reduced their fears. For example, their anxiety over the disease itself, needles, the color white, the hospital environment and their various treatments and surgery significantly improve. Using EFT has also reduced physical and emotional pain, encouraged a healthier attitude and better compliance, improved immune response, and created hope for healing, as well as bringing joy and laughter.

The main purpose for applying energy techniques in a hospital is to improve the Quality of Life of all of those involved. My experience in the childrens cancer ward proves that it is possible to do just that. The template Ive created could teach and guide other EFT practitioners, psychologists and volunteers how best to use these techniques in similar settings. Simple answer: yes. The tapping works on the body's energy system - same as acupuncture. As the doctor states, even if the only direct benefit is stress relief, it helps the kids be more receptive to the medical treatment.
