I apologize for all splotchiness in the film: my greenscreen malfunctioned! This is the third music video I have made, this time about my personal idol Josephine de Beauharnais, who is most known for being the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. She has inspired me so much, and I highly recommend to anyone who has an interest in her the Josephine Trilogy by Sandra Gulland. Once again, I have been greatly inspired by Mrs. B from History for Music Lovers. The clips are from a History Channel Documentary and the TV mini series "Napoleon" with Isabella Rosselini as Josephine. Enjoy!
Lyrics:
Martinico
Just a poor girl wanting to be betrothed
preferably to a man in France to get me out of the jungle
Then a voodoo woman told me out of the blue
That my sister would die but I'd move to France too
And become an empress not for long well it all came true
Well then I escaped and married Alexandre de Beaharnais
He didn't like me stole my son I was outraged
Separated--what strife he generated
What a life I had, poor Josephine
Revolution I was imprisoned my husband lost his head
But I was saved as Robespierre was wanted dead
Released then, 2 kids and all alone then,
What a life I had, poor Josephine
Josephine, Josephine
I had to get away
From this poverty
Befriended Paul Barrass, yeah
One day then, I met a general Napoleon
He fell in love with me, though he was 6 years too young
And then proposed, I didn't know what was to be done
True I was getting old, But I wasn't that bold
So maybe, I should do it for money
Though I was above his standing, I needed someone to save me
I could tell he would worship, by the way he treats me
I told him finally, I would indeed marry
Then I could escape, from this horrible poor world
And I could be his favorite girl, but not forever
Affairs wouldn't make it better
What a life I had, poor Josephine
He gained power (power)
Coup de Tat he became first consul (consul)
Then elected emperor for life (forever)
Nothing could be better
What a life I had, lucky Josephine
Josephine, Josephine
Woohoo.................
I was a gracious empress and was kind to the poor
knowing I was once them, not quite meant for grandeur
Even though I was old I still was adored
But as age crept on (crept on)
I couldn't have a true male heir (male heir)
My husband didn't know if he could bear
Divorcing, but his family forced him
Life turned real hard, poor Josephine
Went to the country (country)
To live my life out in true peace (peace)
Napoleon lost to Russia much to my grief
I really, tried to get the Czar's pity
But my true love was exiled away
I died away, died away
Love it! :D You did an awesome job an this!! :D
btw I love the mini series with Isabella Rosselini :)
but could you post the lyrics somewhere please? :)
