Private Hiram Terman was captured at Gettysburg, sent to Andersonville--and survived! What would that have been like? Max Terman, Hiram's descendant, revisits the camps, battlegrounds, and prisons and based on over ten years of research, writes as if he were Private Terman. From the numbing terror of the battlefield to the grinding misery of the prison camps, in this riveting first hand account, you are there!
The unique thing about this book is that I assume the identity of my ancestor in all of his battles and prison misery. It was quite a challenge to match every detail that actually happened (dairies, letters, first-hand accounts) with a first person dramatized and riveting story of how I would have reacted in his situation.
