North Korean Missile Launch Condemned

Today's top story... A South Korean conservative group is denouncing the North. North Korea's communist regime appears to be preparing to test-launch its longest range ballistic missiles.

STORY:
South Korea's Yonhap news agency and Japan's Sankei Shimbun say the communist North has been moving equipment used in the launch of its Taepodong-2 missile, which the North last test-fired in July 2006.

According to Yonhaps unnamed South Korean official, a train carrying a large object has been moved from a factory and has headed to the site of a newly constructed missile launch site.

About a hundred South Korean protesters gathered in downtown Seoul to denounce the North's possible missile launch.

[Park Chan-sung, Protester]:
"North Korea's Kim Jong-il is not only provoking a war and threatening, but also preparing its Taepodong missile launch. It means that the North is totally ignoring international society and international agreements, betraying all the support it has received so far."

North Korea typically launches missiles in periods of political friction. Last week it said it was scrapping all agreements with South Korea. Analysts say the move was aimed at pressuring Seoul and grabbing the attention of new U.S. president Barack Obama.

[Prof. Yang Moo-jin, Kyungnam University]:
"It seems like the North intends to solve all problems, including its missiles, all at once through an inclusive and direct negotiation with the newly formed Obama administration."

The Taepodong-2 is designed to eventually have a range long enough to hit U.S. territory. Much of the preparation needed to get it ready can be seen by spy satellites.

North Korea already has more than 800 ballistic missiles with ranges that can hit all of South Korea and most of Japan.

Korean's stopped the Bush administration dead cold with their first nuclear test, prompting the US back to the negotiating table, where the US lied to them again.They may be a communist state but that doesn't mean they're stupid, or afraid of anyone. US military knows this to be true.
