Beautiful Irish tune about the whistling Gypsy Rover and the woman he won! Performed by Bill Monaghan in house with his acoustic guitar.

  • Thank you very much for posting this.

  • I have to say hetrodoxly is right. The song is derived from the song Raggle taggle gypsies which is about a Scottish gypsy called Johnnie Faa. Faa is the name of the gypsy royals in Scotland and lived in a place called Yetholm in the Scottish Borders. Johnnie faa was the first of the gypsy royals in Scotland. Many were persecuted and hung as criminals for being supporters of the Scottish crown against the English.

  • There's no evidence that it's Irish? it doesn't sound Irish, any song sung by an Irish man becomes an irish song :)

  • do you have a download for this song?

  • Nice song and performance. Don't you know, by any chance, the tabs/chords for "The Dublin saunter" (also known as Dublin can be heaven) by the same composer? Thanks. Greetings from Portugal
