Sen. Al Franken (D.-Minn.) told more than 2,000 bloggers and organizers attending the Netroots Nation conference in Las Vegas on July 24, 2010, that our media system is at risk everywhere we turn - from our free speech online to the growing power of companies who own a massive number of media outlets.

  • I don't care who you are: Democrat, Republican, Independant, Liberal, Conservative, or whatever, this is something we should all agree on. Protect free speech and first amendment rights, this is what our country was founded on.

  • Al Franken is a

    TRAITOR.

  • ganon talaga ang buhay.

  • @nync888 P.S. IT'S ALREADY TOO LATE.

When will you realize that no matter when you live or what has transpired - e.g. Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia, 80 Latin American Coups, Iran/Contra, Rex84, MKULTRA, COINTELPRO, Project Gunrunner, Enron/Worldcom, Iraq War 2, Pakistan/Libya/Somalia/Mexico usurpation of sovereignty, engineered or at least easily preventible financial collapse after financial collapse, etc., etc. - people can always keep saying "act now, before it's too late." It is already too late.

  • @CynicalSavior

Ron Paul is the best we got right now.

  • @Chaosprincess01 wait...i think corporations do have a right to say they OWN the network of wires and cables they spent money laying into the ground that We Already PAY to use. In that sense, they have full "business" doing so. I just don't like them saying that my use of those wires will be restricted soon--and not having an alternative company to turn to...

  • Al Franken speaks sensibly and coherently upon an important topic for a good long while! As far as I can tell, any arguments against him would have to involve some kind of outright worship of greed.

  • I heard that the internet is actually a series of tubes and that, contrary to popular belief, it is not a dump truck.

  • thumbs up

  • To people saying that we're being paranoid, I would have to insist that even if the corporations didn't take it as far as he says, they still have no business "owning" the internet. What the hell else are they going to do with it, other than abuse it and drive up costs?
