@Pyro60000, previous to 1970 er 71 the 472s had 10.5 -1 compression...i think the highest it was for a 500 was 10.0-1, so not far from a stock base at all...new cam, ported heads, headers and intake is about all i would do if i had one....that engines awesome by the way

A little over a horsepower per cubic inch. The mark of a well tuned engine. I like all sorts of engines and Cadillacs big 500 cubic inch is in a league of its own. Nice to see this luxobarge engine being worked up.

@Pyro60000, in 1970 and 1971 they had 10.5 to 1 comp, that was before emissions stuff started coming in.

@Pyro60000 any hints on rebbuilding one of these? got a 72 from an eldorado and these are exactly the numbers that i'm looking for, any help would be great, thanks

@TWBouska I wouldlove to push around 600 HP, but that will be a bit later. The tranny will handle it once its finished, so I would like to step it up a bit.

@kd7vea honestly he probably just ported the heads and maybe put a more aggressive cam. ive heard of these things being modded to insane power levels with very little work.
Im putting a 472 in my sand rail, just wondering, what did you do to the motor get those numbers out of it, I would assume heads, exhaust, intake, larger valves, and a port????
what ever it is, it sounds very healthy!

@kd7vea Stock heads, but they've been ported with larger valves. It's running pretty high compression, IIRC about 10.5 to 1. Edelbrock aluminum intake, reworked oil pan, custom cam, roller rockers...
The engine had a lot of good parts in it before we got ahold of it, it just needed to be put together correctly. It's actually not THAT far from being stock.
This one is stock stroke, but a company makes stroker kits all the way to 572.
