@madameguido Nope...She is having an affair with a married man. As she says, "I can't help you out, while she is still around." She is waiting for him to leave his wife, but knows deep down that he never will.

@blaatgvd That's like saying Bob Dylan made "All Along the Watchtower" good. Sure, he may have written it, but others *cough* Jimi Hendrix *cough* made it the amazing song we view it as today. Fiona made this song as awesome as it is all by herself. I'm not denying the Lou Reed/Bob Dylan influence, but it is negligible compared to the awesomeness that Apple and Hendrix bring to the composition.
Tl; Dr: Lou Reed wrote it, Fiona Apple perfected it.

@blaatgvd ??? Figure what? Lou Reed could never sing worth a damn and Fiona can. The songs don't sound the same and the subject matter is different. Your point is?

WhatHoney73: So right u r! IMO, her best song to date. I have experienced the message she's conveying & it's definitely not pleasent...Blues classic, period. Elvis Costello does a kickass cover, btw.

bittersweet...not sad exactly....bittersweet but strangely calming...so sometimes it's a little happy even for me...somewhat sad but in a strangely uplifting way....just sad enough to be utterly beautiful I guess.....it's really a love song about deeper love than a typical 'sexy" song. it's sexy i guess in it's intimacy which I guess is what sex is all about at it's best, but it's not really sexy...it's beyond that. it's like twilight on a cool night or something.
