I was inspired by a Moog Freq Pedal demo. I took my monophonic Fatman synthesizer, and used an external input (guitar) as the sync source for oscillator 2. Oscillator 1 is still on the control panel, but it does nothing. The external input (guitar) forces the sync of Oscillator 2, making it track the pitch of the guitar. Making this work well depends on the settings of the input compressor, noise gate, and a low pass filter used to roll off the treble from the guitar. These elements are common to all guitar synthesizers. I was amazed at how well the whole thing works with minor tweaking. This unit is monophonic. If you could input each string individually, as with a hex pickup, you could create a very workable polyphonic guitar synthesizer in software only. The other thing needed is a good envelope follower. The file is on the Native Instruments website, available for improvements from other user. Search for SIMPLE_GTR_SYNTH.ens.

  • There is no MIDI trigger, this is audio only. Start Reaktor, load my patch, and plug your violin/pickup into the interface.

  • got all three of those, now how do i tell my computer to link the audio into a message that triggers midi ?

  • You need some sort of pickup on your violin, an audio interface, and a computer

  • wow so could i do the same with my electric violin, how do you tell it to do that ?

  • The output of my guitar triggers the synth. And, you can control different aspects of the synth sound, waveform width, etc.

  • oh, sweet nice vid man.

here is my situation, i want to play my synth sounds through my violin, was that just an effect on your guitar, or were you actually controlling the synthesizer.

    thanks a bunch!!

  • im not registered on the native instruments site...could any of you possibly send me the ensemble file? i'd really appreciate it ive been looking all over the net and cant find it.

  • Wayne, i can't get this kind of sound from the ensemble :(
