Miner's grade Calcium Carbide (CaC2)is dropped into a container of water, producing acetylene gas.

NOTE: Please don't ask me where you can get calcium carbide. If you really have a need for it, I'm sure that you will be able to find it yourself. After seeing some of the nutty things people do with it, I don't want to be responsible for anyone blowing up their house, or themselves.
Thanks.

    Thanks.

  • So... I brought some carbide from a visit in a chem factory and stored it in a plastic bag since then. Over time, it went from "stone" to powder. Today I decided to put it in a more acceptable container - I used a baking soda container.

Then I put some of this powder that left over into water and what happened - nothing. ?? Is it possible that ALL of the carbide ( not too little ) decomposed to lime, in a sealed atmosphere (plastic bag) ?

  • Anyone got any idea where to buy it?

  • i did that when i was 10 using 2 cans covering each other. after i ignite it, the can on top shoot and hit my forehead. sheezz. blood was all over my face.

  • that made ethyne which burned with a luminous flame :D

  • it looks like milk.... but it was pretty cool.

  • I sell carbide...miners grade only

  • Search for 'carbid medemblik' to see the result of our old-year celebration in the Netherlands. Carbide shooting is a tradition over here :-)

  • im touching some right now.. must not be pure enough. but if you add to water it does the same thing in the video. and smells like shit
