I'm confused, so if I got a DV Dongle, and I connect to the D-star repeater you mentioned, if I transmit, am I going out RF via a repeater or how does that work? is that like Echolink?

DStar is like echolink in that it goes locally over 2m, 70cm or 1.2 gig. When you connect Dstar nodes via reflectors you can go over several simultaneouly.
