Pray for Ellie Potvin!

Ellie Potvin was your typical, energetic, tanned 6-year-old when her life was changed forever. On July 2nd, 2008, Ellie (a twin) was diagnosed with stage 4 rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare tissue cancer. She had a tumor in her pelvic area and the cancer had spread to her lungs.

For nearly a year, Ellie underwent harsh chemotherapy and radiation and she achieved that status that every cancer fighter hopes for before a cure, "remission!". Ellie was in remission for just three short months ... before her relapse in November 2009. This proved her cancer to be very aggressive. Again, she went through a new infusion of chemo, hoping to kill the cancer yet again. It seemed to be working and the family went on a Disney Cruise vacation in December 2009. When the returned, Ellie had a routine CAT scan which showed terrifying results. The lung tumor growth was tremendous. The chemo was not working. If untreated, Ellie would have just 4 weeks to live.

The "big guns" were fired and Ellie had to spend long stays in the hospital receiving toxic chemotherapy. Her body was worn down, but her spirit strong and full of life. At the next CAT scan, the tumors were shrinking! They were still there, yes, but they were getting smaller.

Then, at the next CAT scan, the tumors had not shrunk at all. Ellie seemed so full of life, so vibrant. How could it be that her tumors hadn't shrunk? In fact, they had even grown a small amount but it showed that this 4th and final chemo infusion too had failed.

Rhabdo is a rare cancer and doesn't have many different treatment options that are proven to work. At this point, Ellie had been very over-radiated. More radiation therapy would kill her and no other chemotherapy was available. The only option was alternative treatment, holistic therapy. The entire Potvin family embarked on a journey of eating a very strict, 'cancer-killing' diet. Ellie received chiropractic care and drinks 4 protein shakes a day, an experimental drug from Venezuela.

Then just last week (mid-May 2010), Ellie had another CAT scan. Days before, she had begun to experience pain in her chest and back. The CAT scan results were tragic. Ellie's lung tumors have grown tremendously in just 4 weeks. One is the size of a golf ball, and there are more than 40 tumors overtaking her lungs. The tumor in her hip is spreading down her leg.

Ellie is still fighting. She is surrounded by "God's golden glitter" and everyone who sees her sees God in her eyes.

i just saw dis on twitter and i prayed for the first time in a long time. Thanks Ellie for that. I prayed specially for you and for your family. I asked God for a miracle and i pray he delivers. i have a friend whose younger brother actually went through this but now he's fine. he's back in school now and i pray you have the same miracle he had
