Filmmaker Brett Gaylor explores issues of copyright in the information age, mashing up the media landscape of the 20th century and shattering the wall between users and producers.
The film's central protagonist is Girl Talk, a mash-up musician topping the charts with his sample-based songs. But is Girl Talk a paragon of people power or the Pied Piper of piracy? Creative Commons founder, Lawrence Lessig, Brazil's Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil and pop culture critic Cory Doctorow are also along for the ride.

Ha that Syphonaptera guy is a tool. I'm a musician, and I make all of my music available for free for three reasons. 1. I don't give a damn. 2. I want to expose myself. 3. Why would I want people to be discouraged from hearing my music. I'd rather ask people to donate if they like my stuff, because charging for it just seems silly and I feel it stops people from listening to all of the brilliant music the world has to offer
Actually, its more like someone who goes and buys 100 baseballs and then decides to give them to all of his friends or someone who buys a car and then lets all of his friends use it. Is that stealing? I don't think so. If your product is good enough then you will sell enough without having to worry about the ones who get it for free from their friends.
Look, very simple , if I create something and I WANT to share it, I'll give it out myself for free..or let others. If I create something and I do NOT want to share it, but sell it to those that WANT to buy it for what it's worth then I do NOT want these "share everything"-assholes to steal my creativity so that others can steal it aswell, f.e. by downloading. Many do not comprehend the fact that "if I like your car I might aswell steal it , because it was possible to get stolen"- is BULLSHIT!!
shit if it was made illegal everyone would burns dvds or copy files to usbsticks and share them that way. the companys themselfs made it possible to share this way its their own damn fail!
dangerjuices , you are so wrong here. The music/movie industry DID NEVER EVER made it possible to let products get stolen via download. You are just making up a pathetic excuse to justify your wrongs. You are STEALING buddy and this is punishable.
dangerjuices , yep , cprrect, I never downloaded anything that was not offered FREE by a company or band, now it is your turn..you thief. It is dorks like you that give the companies the excuse to sell their product expensive....
