After primarily featuring orchestras of the late 20s and early 30s - I would like to present some popular singers of the era... First up is A Great Voice and a magnificent song : legendary Richard Tauber sings "Pardon, Madame!" from Paul Abraham's operetta "Viktoria & Ihr Husar" which premiered in 1930.

About the video :

The video contains a picture of Richard Tauber as well as French sheet music of "Viktoria & Ihr Husar" ("Viktoria & son hussard" in French). Furthermore it features some nostalgic images of Berlin - the city where Tauber had his greatest triumphs.

About the record:

Odeon O- 4982b / mx. Be.9318

Recorded 1931.

The record is in fair condition.
This record was transferred without any cleaning or mastering.

Sound equipment used :

Shure M78S Cartridge & stylus
Turntable : Stanton T.90
TerraTec 78RPM Phono Pre-amp

After processing, this video will also be offered in HD.
However whether this function works will depend on your Internet connection and the abilities of your computer (your screen may freeze).

After uploading it will take some time for the image to be fully processed (and become sharp)

  • A remarkable transfer of great immediacy.

Interesting to compare it with Mike Dutton's transfer using CEDAR processing from my Odeon 78 on the eponymous CD.

  • Thank you for your comment... These days I always transfer the 78rpms without mastering or denoising... It was a lesson I head to learn... I leave the real restauration work to the professionals... I don't have a studio nor the very expensive software needed for careful restauration... I intend to re-post my earlier uploads where I did attempt some restauration.

  • Wundervoll! Einfach betaubernt!

Es gibt wohl keinen, der dieses Lied hätte schöner singen können.

  • Ich bin genau der gleichen Meinung!

  • @Leotaurus1975 Yes It is wonderfull, but the short version by RUDOLF SCHOCK is also a delight. LOVED the old photos of BERLIN a city I visit often and LOVE.

  • Thanks very much for posting this! My colleagues and I have played the chorus of this beautiful for years in cafes here, but we've never heard a recording.

  • Does you phono pre-amp include compensation circuits for the Westrex recording? These can provide good equalisation without the need for much further restoration [other than scratch filtering].
