Congratulations on providing value even 2 1/2 yrs later. This solution worked for me on the second try. Glad the video shows that it may not take on the first try. Happy New Year!

Have u fixed this problem? My friend had the same problem with his 3gs. The wonderful people at apple seem to think it is a software issue. It's NOT A SOFTWARE ISSUE it will hapen even if u update to the latest firmware. The problem is in the battery, for some reason APPLE decided to use this krap battery which dies (quick and a lot). The device may show 60% but it's not at that percentage. My friend changed the battery and it's sorted the problem!

@xctom5593 I mailed my in to a repair center. Hooked it up to my computer once I got a new one and am getting ready to send this one back due to the continuall lock ups. I have just about had it with Apple and their products.
Same exact problem? I tried and tried to fix it as well. I had to take it to an apple store to get it completely replaced, no fee whatsoever

Actually, this happened a long time ago(3 months about), on the 2.2.1 firmware if i remember correctly. It got so bad, as you see in the video, that i couldn't take it anymore. I went to a nearby apple store, got it exchanged, and BAM.... perfectly working iPhone. I'm convinced it was a chip problem or something else related. Trust me, if you have a problem that cannot be solved by the numerious solutions given online (restore, wipe, ect.) just save yourself the hassle and go to the apple store.
