  • That's a pretty accurate summary. I originally filmed this tutorial for a friend who had similar questions about changing the email address behind her Live ID. Interesting development since this was filmed, you can now manage your non-Hotmail email within Hotmail.

  • Afraid changing the e-mail address associated with your Live ID only works if you originally set it up with a non-Microsoft e-mail address in the first place. However, Hotmail now allows you to manage your Gmail and multiple other e-mail accounts within the Hotmail UI.

@ Ntina - ZohoMail is just an example of a non-Hotmail e-mail service.

  • Ntina - You can only change the email address associated with your Windows Live ID if it's one associated with a non-Microsoft (Hotmail, MSN, Live.com) email account. So changing the email address really doesn't change anything about your Windows Live ID. All the Messenger status updates, comments, etc., will continue to function. You'll just login using a different email address. Hope that clears it up for you. Thanks!

  • @ Gav - no, I originally posted this to help a friend who was considering closing an account and wanted to know whether she had to completely close her Live ID. Closing the non-Microsoft e-mail isn't a required step. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

  • @ Juggernaut757 - Probably because your Live ID is tied to a Hotmail, Live, or MSN e-mail address. Can't change those.
