The Stupak-Pitts amendment to the House health care bill is a giant step backwards for women.

With women holding only 17% of Congress, we're at a clear disadvantage to fight this kind of attack on our reproductive health options.

But we do have a strong group of women Congressmembers who are standing up against this outrageous attack on women's health.

Tell Congress that you stand with these women - for women's health and against Stupak - and ask them to do the same.

  • Abortion is not health care.

  • I have been raped before, have you, @lacaliffa1288? If I had become pregnant I would have had that child because I am responsible, that child would have been part of me and I am not a murderer. That simple. I am not grateful that more than 52 MILLION children (just in the US) have been savagely torn limb by limb, vaccumed or burned with saline because of a "right" to kill. Natural Family Planning is 99% effective and will not result in killing an innocent child.

  • @Patriarch00 I never said anything about "pre-life" or “It’s OK in certain circumstances.” so I don't appreciate your misleading attempt to attribute these quotes to me. My religious beliefs guide my behavior. I am not empowered by God to force others to follow my beliefs. Nor are you. I can and do try to provide resources that will help prevent unwanted pregnancies, abuse, rape, incest and other situations that place women in desperate situations that sometimes result in abortions.

  • @Patriarch00 You overstate science to justify your belief that you have the authority to dictate decisions to others. Science defines an embryo as live cells in the early stages of development, human cells, not human beings. Those cells may stop developing for unknown reasons or due to trauma, including abortion. Science has not concluded that dividing cells have equal rights of a person who is born.

  • @lacaliffa1288 You're wrong again. The problem for these advocates is that all the scientific evidence points in precisely the opposite direction. Modern human embryology and developmental biology have shown that fertilization produces a new and distinct organism: a living individual of the human species in the embryonic stage of his development. There's no such thing as "pre-life".

  • @lacaliffa1288 The embryo doen’t have to survive to birth. That is not what’s in question here. The point is that it's a living thing. If the embryo is miscarried, then it's natural - opposed to being sucked out by a vacuum. You say that it is your religious belief that life begins at conception. I don’t think you truly understand what that statement is saying. It is hypocitial to profess this while turning around and saying “It’s OK in certain circumstances.” That’s contradictory.

  • @lacaliffa1288 There is much to be said against this, but its defects are philosophical, not scientific. Its proponents recognize that there is no Holy Grail out there to find, and they are willing to defend the killing of human embryos while facing up to the biological facts. But then there are the Grail searchers. These people are determined to prove that what modern human embryology has been telling us is wrong, and to this end they scavenge the fields of molecular biology and human genetics.

  • @AtTheCornerCafe And I would support your right to make your choice, not to impose your choice on others who may not share your beliefs. It would be far more productive for both sides to work together to prevent unwanted pregnancies, abuse, abandoned women, rape, incest, and the many complex - not so simple - situations that many women experience. If you feel this strongly then please support family planning, sex education, support options, and teaching young men & women to be more responsible.

  • @Patriarch00 It is not scientifically accepted fact that all fertilized eggs survive to birth of a child. A fertilized egg develops into a human being if it survives to birth. That's the reason a pregnant woman is "expecting" a baby. My religious belief is that life begins at conception. I support family planning to prevent unwanted pregnancies & abortions. I won't impose my religious beliefs on others but support options for women in dire situations. Your scientific interpretation is flawed.

  • @Patriarch00 Seriously? Same rights? So, the second an egg is fertilized, the dividing cells have all the inheritance rights of a fetus that survives to term & birth? This is news to attorneys & pregnant women everywhere. The moment that they are pregnant, cells that may never develop into a human being, are entitled to whatever the zygote's inheritance may be. If the woman miscarries, there is no birth, but you think they can claim ownership of their child's inheritance! You are incorrect.

  • @lacaliffa1288 Of course, this is exactly backwards from reality. The entire basis for life beginning at conception stems from well documented, universally recognized scientific fact. The only ones who deny this are people like you who are blinded by your own religious dogma of so-called “choice” who have a stubborn need to deny scientific fact in order to stay faithful to your own ideology.

  • @lacaliffa1288 Pro-lifers are often criticized for their position that human life begins at conception. Many incorrectly think that this belief is based on some blind religious dogma, a scripture passage somewhere, or some stubborn need to tell women what to do with their bodies. All the while, your opposition likes to pretend that you are the scientific, logical ones – obviously not blinded by religion or some judgmental God.
