In this ArtistsNetwork.tv video workshop, Luminous Watercolor with Sterling Edwards: The Wooded Landscape, you'll start with exercises on lost-and-found edges and negative shape painting (painting around an object—a technique that will help you give your paintings depth). Then follow along with Sterling as he uses his four-step process for painting luminous watercolors to paint a sun-filled forest in full-autumn splendor—save whites and paint the midtones with a movement of color, lay in the darkest darks to bring in contrasts, selectively glaze the whites, add final details and refine shapes. His painting method is a great guide no matter what your subject.

  • Sterling uses MaimeriBlu watercolors. They are available at several online stores, or check your local art supply store. Glad you enjoy this preview!
