Can they be pastors, or should they be silent?

  • I don't see the first part of my comment and I ran out of space... I forgot where I left off... haha... I will come back later and try again.

  • I moderate comments, which is why it didn't appear. Too many people can't be civil so comments don't get through until I see them, which may be a few minutes, or may be up to 3 days.

  • From a literal perspective I can't prove that slavery should be abolished. I just know that it was a fact of life in Bible times and was quite different than the slavery which America experienced in the early days. I do believe it's wrong, but I wouldn't use the Bible to prove that.

  • Well studied, Victoria. Three questions:

    1) Why are women able to prophesy, but not preach or teach? Prophecy is usually considered a priority gift.

    2) Consider women such as Gladys Aylward or Corrie Ten Boom. Were they in error to do as they did?

    3) From a purely literal perspective, would you argue that it is God's will that slavery should be abolished? How would you prove this from the Bible without proof-texting?

    Well done.

  • There's a lot of stuff I don't know. I don't understand your first question and don't know why God doesn't allow women to preach and teach men. I just know that's what the Bible says.

I have never heard of Gladys and don't know enough about Corrie Ten Boom to respond. What is it she did that you think I might not approve of?

  • Last thought.

Many arguments in favor of women teaching depend on the prophetess verses -- those arguments assume that "prophecy" and "teaching/preaching" are synonyms.

You don't seem to believe that. So what is the difference between them? And why are women allowed to do the one but not the other?

  • I define it in the video - edification, encouragement, counseling, and consolation. I have no problem with a woman speaking a word from God if she receives it, but it's not something done in my church, and usually done wrongly in petacostal churches.

Teaching/preaching would be explaining biblical passages to men, such as during a sermon. I do not believe women should do this.

  • I am an Orthodox christian and i dont believe woman should be priests for the simple reason that it was eve who led adam to sin and the bible says woman shoud stay silent but it doesnt mean she cant help in the church. There are alots of things woman can do in the church. God bless you and we should encourage more of this

  • @MusingsFromTheJohn I don't believe that the creator of 170+bn galaxies is a male or female. We are all equals under God. It makes no sense to have an intercessor male (husband or other) between ourselves and God. I think many biblical passages have been used to eg. codify slavery and racism but we know better now. Many churches have female pastors and they have not burnt to the ground.

  • The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here.

  • @poobear1ful Seems to be what Paul requires. Women's prominent role in the fall???

  • @newbirth35 There was Voluntary and Involuntary slavery. Involuntary or servitude was the ability to pay off debts. Lawyers, business owners, blue collar workers worked off debt this way. The Bible prescribes more humane ways to treat slaves, servants. With the invading Countries. slavery was very common.

  • @tbursee Good point.

  • @CRoadwarrior Strong's-woman-'gyne'-1.a woman of any age, whether a virgin, or married, or a widow.

    2.a wife. 3. of a betrothed woman.

Thus the primary definition in verses 11-13 is a virgin, married or widow, secondary a wife.

    In verse 12-Man-is-'aner'-a.male b.husband c. future husband.

In verse 13-it speaks of Adam, who was first formed then Eve.
