The Chief Minister Paul Henderson and Minister for Education Chris Burns announced today (27 April 2010) that more teachers and record funding would be a key part of budget 2010, with $886 million to boost education across the Territory.

The new Rosebery Primary and Middle Schools will cater for 1,450 students and boast the latest technology and ultra modern facilities.

Palmerston families will be able to start enrolling their children for school next semester in readiness for the schools openings in 2011.

Budget 2010 includes:

· $213 million of Northern Territory and Australian Government funding to build, maintain and upgrade school facilities.

· $6.4 million to upgrade the Centralian Middle School at Gillen and establish a Youth Hub at Anzac Hill.

· $1.5 million over four years to deliver five new Centres of Excellence at senior Territory Schools.

. $2.3 million to expand student engagement programs such as Clontarf Football Academy to 11 sites and the Girls Sporting academies at six sites.

Minister for Education and Training, Chris Burns, said the Territory Government is putting record funding into delivering more teachers, infrastructure, and programs to boost education.

The Territory Government is continuing to invest in education with 330 extra teachers since 2002, Dr Burns said.

We are spending $246 million over four years to build better schools across the Territory, including a $300,000 upgrade for every government primary and group school.
