What a great piec! And what a very fine performance. Wonderful cellist. I need to see the movie, and buy the music, too!
I hear some Hindemith and maybe Vaughn Williams.
And, at 2:28, I hear a hint of the second shostakovich concerto(which of course wasn't written til 20 years later) and I hear some of the music from a typical John Ford western(which may well have been written by Korngold himself)
nice concerto, but a bit disappointing performance: terrible vibrato in the slow and intimate part and it should sound easier; there is too much tension in my opninion.
There are good recording of the concerto on RCA etc.. The film version is much shorter, but the concert version is beefed up with beautiful sad phrases from Koengold's score from 'The Private Life of Elizabeth and Essex'.

Look for Ricardo Acosta's sonata for piano and violin. He is deeply influenced by Korngold.

The narrator sounds a little like Dirk Bogarde, but it isn't. Anybody know?

Sorry, that should be 'Private Lives of Elizabeth of Essex'. Can't these posts be edited, revised?
