Real kata is not designed to be 'pleasant to watch'! They were designed to train effective unarmed combat for self defence. Wado retains this attitude to real martial art within its kata and does not waste time with unnecessary movements. Go watch a kung fu movie if you want entertainment.

katas are only katas not more, its a tool for fighting and its no matter wich MA. in this video u see one thing very important , his innerpower, look at his punches and u see how powerfull his hits are. its not the power of one arm its the power of the hole body and this is the thing wich 90% of the MArtis do not lern and do not train. chinese called it Fajing or Fa li and japanise called it Kime

Es una falta de verguenza el criticar a un maestro tan serio como el maestro Suzuki. A mi realmente no me gustan los katas de Wado, pero el maestro Suzuki es una leyenda y uno de los mejores karateka que haya habido, un maestro realmente duro! Puede que los katas no me gusten visualmente, pero no puedo objetar de ninguna manera su eficacia.

Awesome to see the older masters at "work". Eventhoug I practice Kyokushin Karate-Do, I find it very educational to watch and practice wado, shito, gojo and shotokan kata's / interpretations of kata's. Usually the bunkai for a kata is different in each karate style, therefore you practice different kumitetechniques by using the same kata. There's no "ugly" in any kata, only action/reaction.....

@tobywinder More Japanese styles? Ohtsuka Hironori Sensei was Japanese and his master was Funakoshi Gichin Sensei who was Okinawan Japanese. How japanese do you want it? As for UGLY kata you realise you are insulting many many thousands of karateka around the world. Learn the principles of whatever karate you train if any and learn respect and humility and think before you write a comment on youtube again.

very well said , uch like shotokan. that has so many, worhtless and pointless moves. it'sdesigned to please the eye, the bunkai looks awesome but 90percnt of shotokan kata's are such what pointless moves

Exactly my point. Suzuki Sensei expresses maximum kime throughout his kata. Not pretty, but effective. Well said NassenAir.
