The deal is, that when the tide is out, it just looks like miles of sand flats..dry and safe. But it's not flat, it's not safe, and not all of it is sand. You can walk out there having seen it bone dry for a couple of hours, then try to return to find the creeks filled with running water which is already well ahead of you, the sand getting covered behind you. And if you ever find you're walking on "bouncy" sand.. DO NOT STOP WALKING.. you're on quicksand. stop, and you sink. Only one outcome!

The river Wyre runs through the sea at Fleetwood though so people paddle in the shallow sea water then suddenly find themselves being dragged out to sea in a fast-flowing, 30ft deep river! Swimming in Morecambe Bay is suicide!

from other clips, people just go when the tide is not coming in. what is the big deal?
-
so i guess people go in it when the tide doesn't come.

Great videos. Have you been across the bay with Cedric Robinson? I did in July with a few hundred other people and it was fantastic. I've got his new book as well which has plenty of good tales.
I also came across the body of one of the Chinese cockle pickers a few years ago. Not very nice.

wow,is this place near Southport, or is the tide like that area? Because I was told that it comes and goes there too. At times there is water and at others there is no water, and I heard that if your there at the wrong time, you can get stuck in quick sand and the tide can carry you off. Here if there is water at a coast its always there, at times it may be deeper and lower, But I was amazed by the water /coastal areas that yall have, that seem to vanish, and come back. Very cool video, thanks
I suppose you could say Southport was near - in Texican terms anyway! About an hours drive away. The difference here is that the tide is entering a bottleneck whereas Southport/fleetwood etc are on the coast proper. Thanks for your interest and kind comments Remember The Alamo!!

certainly there are quicksands. Local history records tell of a coach and horses disappearing on the old cross bay route used over the centuries. As to Fleedwood - no the tide is fast but you don't get the same effect.
