@wingedorangeumbrella I have a solution for you. Simply say you are on a strict vegetarian diet. Everyone understands diets. If they say "But you look great! you are not fat!" Then say, "Thanks, see? it is working!"
Vegan is an extremist new age religion. That is why most people react the way they do. Strict Vegetarians eat the same but without the morality and ethics of "ahimsa" involved.
As for the shoes. Just say you prefer not to wear leather or fur.

i know, but i hate how people think that...i grew up being an omnivore so i would never hate on them, i'm just living my life happily as being vegan & i have never pushed anyone to change, most people at school don't even know i'm vegan because you never hear me bring it up...until they see me eat =p

yeah ive had some similar experiences but its kindof important to remember that veganism is a protest......... and if a vegan avoids using the word vegan then toure not really re-educating others...... thus preventing the spread of veganism...

I know this video is old, but I found it :). I hope that you are still going strong with your veganism and not letting people get to you. I've been either vegetarian or vegan about half of my life and I *still* get the comments. Just let them slide off you :) Good luck!
