  • EVERYONE!

    Explanation of Kanazawa/Valdesi:

Shotokan, in theory, is the most dynamic martial art. Therefore, true power is not derived from punching as if one's arm were an iron ball; rigidity impedes energy. One "should" punch as if their arm were an iron chain, and at the end of it an iron ball; suppleness enables buoyancy and therefore explosiveness.

Shotokan, to me, is mainly about directness of energy. Both styles are perhaps equally as effective, one, however, is just a little quicker.

  • From the cut of the gi, excess belt length, drama laden pauses, big stomping sounds often resulting in being out of balance, quick hand movements with no body connection (again for performance).

His kata is for others to watch, not for his personal karate to grow.

Observations based on 37 years of Shotokan training.

  • Abysmal

  • @s800cd absolutely bang on my man.... with the applause he got here i thought he created the kata, or maybe i was watching Itosu sensei n didnt realise lol

  • IT´S SAD HOW KARATE IS LOOSING THE REAL DO..... JUST FOR INSTANCE TAKE A LOOK "HIDETO TSUCHIYA" SOCHIN....

I AM PRETTY SURE NISHIYAMA, KANAZAWA, ASAI, TANAKA, KAWASOE AND OTHER REAL KARATE DO SENSEI WOULD NEVER SEE THIS KIND OF SPORT (NOT KARATE) AS KARATE....

LET´S LEAVE THIS PEOPLE IN THEIR WORLD OF FAKE KARATE.....THATS IT.

  • I am attending a Kanazawa Seminar now because one of our Sensei in town is hosting him. I have a dojo of my own and frankly I am not impressed with the students that he has produced. Shut up about Kanazawa, people act like Japanese should be the only people that should be good at Karate. Valdesi is extemely good, hes fast and precise, which is how karate should be.

  • This guy does not have kime. His punches are to flicky, that's how he gets that, exaggerated snap. Real kime is smooth and heavy feeling when it hits. I'd kill for his flexibility but his applicable power is lacking. But I agree, he achieves what he is trying to attain 100%. Too much theatrics, not enough practicality for me though.

  • I really do not feel that there is a basis of comparison comparing his version of Gojushiho Dai to Kanazawa's. The standard (competitively) for Gojushiho Dai is Dario Marchini. Take a look at his videos of the kata... very traditional... even Valdesi's version doesn't compare... and i'm sure valdesi himself knows it...
