Elvis Presley True Love Travels on a Gravel Road
Written by Dallas Frazier and Al Owens. Elvis recorded it February 17, 1969 at American Sound Studios in Memphis. It is available on From Elvis in Memphis, The Memphis Record, Suspicious Minds [1999], and From Nashville to Memphis-The Essential 60s Masters, which is where this version is from.

How many girls choose cotton dress worlds
When they could have satins and lace
And stand by her man,
never once letting shade touch her face
How many hearts could live through all the winters
We've known and still not be cold
True love travels on a gravel road.

Love is a stranger and hearts are in danger
On smooth streets paved with gold
For true love travels on a gravel road.

Uh uh

Down through the years we've had hard times and tears
But they only helped our love grow
And we'll stay together no matter how strong the wind blows
Not once have I seen your blue eyes filled with envy
Or stray from the one that you hold
Oh true love travels on a gravel road.

Love is a stranger and hearts are in danger
On smooth streets paved with gold
Oh true love travels on a gravel road.

Mmm mmmm

Yeah, true love travels on a gravel road. Mmmmmmm
True love travels on a gravel road. Oh yeah
True love travels on a gravel road.

  • Let's put it this way. If you placed all of the greatest names you could think of in a room together and Elvis walked in, they would all be looking at him.

  • how can anybody be that good looking, sing like that, and still kick your ass, one hell of a man, I mean hell, he's a black belt in karate, a army vet, and a good man, with manners, always stood up when a lady walked into a room, decent to others, but underneath if you hurt someone in his presence, the fight was on, the King.

  • Wow, what Magnitude had the KING!

  • aint it the truth. sing it brother.

  • The KING #1 FOR EVER

  • Thanks Vidnut for the interesting info re American and Suspicious Minds. Appreciated.

  • Superb ballad by the King. He did so many great album tracks.

    Cheers for posting.

  • I agree with MrDuckfeet. Memphis sessions = Elvis at his top.
