Lebanon is preparing to swear in a new president on Sunday, the first step of a peace deal between rival political factions.

The agreement signed in Qatar on Wednesday ended 18 months of political deadlock that sparked violence on the streets of Beirut.

Since the deal, a sense of normality has returned to the capital.

Al Jazeera's Rula Amin reports.

  • Lebanon can only find true peace when the Lebanese IN Lebanon can be "Lebanese" before being Sunni, Shi'a, Maronite, Greek Orth, Druze etc... The country has SO MUCH potential which is wasted by people's close-mindedness. Remember that when u point your finger, you have 3 fingers pointing back at yourself. Stop blaiming everyone else, they are not the ones that will bring peace to Lebanon. The Lebanese and the Lebanese alone will bring peace to Lebanon. I wish for the best. Mucho Amor de Mexico

  • Amooretliban if it wernt for the LF christians would not exist in Lebanon we would of aLL been pushed out all Lebanon by arafat and his gang of thugs. the LF is the only life line we had.Tell me why did hezbollah only make the claim for the shebaa AFTER israel left the south in 2000 not before?islamizing Lebanon was part of HA charter for many years.if had not been for the LF lebanon would still be fatahland & no christian area would of been protected since no one could give a cr*** for us.

  • 1559 was never obeyed,as for 1701 hizbollah didnot violate it.

  • Hi, (marhaba), It is relatively safe, but Lebanon is a volatile region, and politics on a high stake at the moment. My advice is, you could go for 3/5 days and avoid going outside Beirut, as they are reforming the government. Don't go in August it can be hot and humid for you, now is fine or, the beginning of November is the best time! Take care.

  • Peace in Lebanon...Salam Youssef...Kifak Mohamed?

  • Hezballah has done more positive things than negative things...Im sure ur not from South Lebanon, Christian or Shia Muslim from the South and u couldnt possibly understand if u have not experienced occupation by Israel. You want Hezballah to feel with u about Syria well feel with them about Israel and America.
