  • is it normal for your thumb to get sore at first? (well, when standing, instead of sitting)

  • @purplemonkeyhippo32 : I often see (and used to hold it so myself) the left shoulder of the bass angled a bit further back than ideal. This puts more of the instrument's weight in the left thumb than is desirable/necessary. Experiment with the angle the face of the bass makes with the front of your body. Close the angle a bit if possible, provided you can still play a full bow stroke on the e string.
