This song was recorded by the Basement in 1989 at Mad Hat, Wolverhampton. Dave Atherton (of Wild Flowers) produced it and can be heard on backing vocals.
Band's bio:
The Basement were formed in 1986 by Green On Red/Replacements fan Paul Brindley (Guitar/Vocals) and Ramones/Pogues fan John Punter (Bass), who were both out of step with 80's trends. They were joined by two other ex-Wolgarston High School students, Dave Morgan-Williams (Guitar) and Graham Warrilow (Drums). Their rehearsal room was a youth club building in Wheaton Aston, Staffs where they worked on their own songs and a version of the Four Seasons "The Night" which led to management interest from local DJ Steve Clayton and another DJ Little Winston, who financed a pressing of that song which they recorded for £70. This was featured on Radio 1, as well as local radio, and reviewed favourably in Melody Maker. The band played some memorable gigs in the Midlands as well as Covent Garden and The Powerhouse, Islington. The best of these was probably at Wolverhampton Polytechnic, but one particularly drunken afternoon at a free festival in Oswestry led to the departure of Graham and the formation of The Loveless by the remaining three.
