  • LBJs reason for civil right legislation.

In a phone conversation (on tape at the LBJ Library) with Sen. Russell (D) of Georgia, LBJ said, "That'll keep the niggars voting Democrat for the next 200 years."

    -

Pres. Dwight Eisenhower (R) pushed to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1957, but LBJ & friends screwed it to worthless. He ensured a desegregated military.

    -

JFK & Al Gore voted against the 57 Civil Rights Act.

    -

It was Republicans who founded the Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

  • ...It wouldnt surprise me to find out that LBJ appropriated "civil rights / affirmative action initiatives"..from JFK's 64 platform..and simply took credit....recognizing that Martin Luther King and others unleashed a movement that could not be opposed

..and those changes already started to happen under JFK..

he sure didnt seem to be a man spouting humanitarian issues during his pre presidential tenure...he seemed more like another self promoting politico..prior to ascend to his presidency.

Thx for the recommendation..unfortunately you are fixated on Allison's work done in 1971 and disputed by many since.

You may consider some more recent works using de-classified docs. like two books by James Blight "Crisis Years (1991) and Sad and Luminous Days (2002).

On Bay of Pigs.."Brilliant Disaster" by Jim Rasenberger is a must.

BTW: JFK found out 2 days after inaug. about CIA plan from Dwight. E

Could have sent in heavies but instead ignored brass and took the loss.

  • @AlecBoy006 Alec I totally agree with you, but noone else here does. I like standing up for the underdog, just like LBJ did ;-)

  • @ADAMSIXTIES With all due respect to "zeroceiling," I think you're probably right.

  • @zeroceiling Re the difference between the Kennedy administration's handling of the Bay of Pigs and the missile crisis, I commend to your careful study Professor Graham Allison's work, The Essence of Decision. It has become a classic of political science literature, and rightly so. It will demonstrate the reasons for the "ghastly mistakes" of 1961, in contrast to the successful management of the 1962 crisis.

  • @zeroceiling Great. Also let me know when yours is, so I'll be ready to flush ;-p
